2003 softail springer fuel tank replacement
Hi all,
New to this site. I am a 36 y/o female trying to change out my fuel tank to a custom tank. I am having problems and hopefully can get some help so I dont have to try and load it up and take it to the local dealership for help. I want to try and get it fixed for the three day weekend. I have the new tank installed and all the fuel sending unit and fuel pump put in the new one. It wont start. I was careful pulling the three wires out of the connector under the tank (orange, yellow, black) prior to pulling out the fuel gauge. I think...I got the float pointing to the front of the tank on the left side, the fuel pump back under the top plate and the fuel line with an ideal clamp to the fuel pump down to the fuel pickup under the tank. When i turn the ignition on (not press the start button) the fuel gauge registers 1/4 tank of fuel and the yellow low fuel light goes out. When I press the start button the fuel gauge goes to negative indication (like empty) and it wont start. I dont think i pinched any lines internal but I am not sure. Is going negative normal when you push the start button? i never really paid attention so I am not sure this is a sign of grounding problem. I disconnected the fuel discharge line and saw no signs of fuel making it past the tank. Also when I turn the start button on I do hear the fuel pump engage (the whinning noise letting me know the pump is running) Oh yeah it is fuel injected system. I am lost..What do I need to do to get it going? PLEASE HELP!!
