2008 Fatboy detachable backrest signal relocation kit help
How hard is it to do and should I attempt to do it myself. I am not the best when it comes to doing \\; electrical myself but am always willing to give it a shot.
 \\;
Thanks for the advise.
RE: 2008 Fatboy detachable backrest signal relocation kit help
Its a long winded excercise for the result you see.
You need to unfasten and very carefully lift the rear fender at the rear and wedge /pack it up in the air whilst you work under it leaving it part fastened towards the front.
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\;
The elctrical side requires you to cut the wires as per instructions, crimp on the special in line connectors with a decent crimping tool and at a later \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;stage \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ ;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;heat shrink those same connectors.
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\;
Special slotted nuts are used for securing the indicators and clearing the wires when re-assembling. A lot of care is needed to avoid scratching the Fender and trapping the wires.
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\;
I did mine with the wheel actually removed as I was fitting new wheels at the same time so access was much better.
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\;
I you feel you can cope easily on this basis you should be fine.
With the wheel removed it took me about 1 1/2 hours from memory - not a quick job I am afraid.

Eagle1eye I don't think that can be done on an 08 model. You may be able to cut the sideplate but you would also have to cut away and destroy the main working part of the quick release on the detachment mechanism.
RE: 2008 Fatboy detachable backrest signal relocation kit help
You don't have to loosen the fender at all either you can reach in from the side of the fender with your hand to remove the wires from the clips under the fender. \\; I also suggest not using the butt connectors they supply but to solder and shrink tube the wire splice.
RE: 2008 Fatboy detachable backrest signal relocation kit help
You need to loosten the fender to get the fixings in place for the hollow re-location studs and their securing nuts.
 \\;\\\\\\;
How did you manage this without lifting the fender clear of the stays?
RE: 2008 Fatboy detachable backrest signal relocation kit help
If you do one side at a time you can just take the fender strut off one side and never have to move the fender . Less chance of scratching something and it lines back up perfectly if you do one strut side at a time

I did mine without moving the fender as well. \\; The instructions were about worthless. \\; Hardest part was getting the wire through the new stem. \\; Found liquid dish soap was the answer.

Agree with the instructions being the biggest bunch of s**t ever pretty much toss them out. \\; And you will most certainly need some lubrication to get those wires in there they didn't spare any room at all.
