I noticed that there is an orange and yellow wire that comes out of the bottom of the tank on the left side, directly below the emblem of my 06 Heritage. \\; This came to my attention as the clip the holds the wires to the under side of the tank came off. \\; A little double-sided tape and it's all back on. \\; My question is what are these wires for? \\; Since the seem to be coming from under the tank below the fuel gauge, I assume that it has something to do with that. \\; I couldn't find them in my service manual. \\; Thanks for your help.
I think they are for the fuel pump, but I am not sure. I do know that the clip you are talking about rides on a wire that runs along the backbone. You may be able to get it back on, but mine slides fore and aft.
The clip is not near the backbone. \\; It is right under the roll of the tank near a small port in which these wires come out. \\; This port is behind the fuel cross over and in front of the quick disconnect of the fuel line. \\; Maybe not every bike has this clip. \\; IDK. \\; But I believe is has something to do with the gas gauge, just not sure what though.
Crappy is correct, rbabos. \\; I am surprised I didn't find a wad of gum used as the adhesive. \\; Thanks for confirming what I had thought those wires were.

It really is cheap tape.....mine came off pretty quickly too. I guess they thought it was a better alternative than gum or boogers [:'(]
Yep... fuel gauge wires... found them when my 08 X-Bones was leaking gas down those wires... Come to find out the little cup that the gas gauge sets in on top of the tank was cracked and let the gas in and then it would drain out through there... 3 weeks and still waiting on a tank...
