Default Cutting a Shield??

Hey everyone justing wondering who has cut a Lexan polycarbonate shield and with what and how? I'm thinking of cutting my National Cycle Switch Blade. I know many of you have done this so why try something that might not work when someone has made it work. THANKS ahead of time.

hi
if you are near plymouth, ma
i'll do it for you @ n/c.
I work at:
Plimoth Glass Company
175 Court Street
Plymouth, Ma

We do this fairly regularly, first we have the rider show us where he wants the top of the shield, then we cut w/ a jig saw and then re-polish the top. good as new..

If you google the question you'll find many online sources for how to do it. This video is one of the better ones imo:

I recently took 1.5" off mine and it was much easier than I thought it would be. I think the video recommends going up to 800 or so sandpaper. The highest I could find was 600 and it worked fine. I sanded the whole edge of the shield so it would all match. The finish looks original.

Make sure you tape it up good. The lexan will scratch very easily.

I had mine cut at a local glass shop for $25.00. they polished the edges also. I wouldn't tackle it for $25.

I couldn't find a glass shop around me to do cut my shield. They didn't want to do it because the shield isn't flat. So I did it myself. It's very easy to do. The longest part of the job for me was making the template and ensuring I got the cuts even on both sides of the shield. I used a jigsaw and smoothed out the cut with a file and then polished the edge with sand paper going up to 600 grit.
