Default Heritage wobble problem solved

My 07 Heritage developed a wobble. 12,000 miles on the bike. It did it at all speeds. But it only did it when I let up on the throttle. I took it to the dealer and they said it needed a steering head adjustment and I should have the 10,000 mile service done. (At $410 Bucks) so I told them to just do the steering head adjustment for $60 bucks.

Well, the steering head adjustment didn’t do anything. The wobble didn’t change at all. So they told me I would need to have the front wheel taking off and trued at a cost of about $150 bucks. They told me to bring it back and leave it with them for a few days.

I came home and went on this site and looked up wobble problem. I found all kinds of things from air pressure, out of balance, worn tires, head adjustment, worn bearing, pinch bolts broke and some about spokes being loose. I checked my spokes and found a few loose one in the front and twice a many in the rear. I tighten them up and took the bike for a ride. Yeehaaaa the problems solved. It’s back to being a nice smooth ride.\

I’m thinking about getting a torque wrench for the spokes. I have seen them online for about $130. Has anyone used one?

I also just wanted to say. You people are so awesome with all the great information you provide to people like me. And I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

Thank you very much,
Earl

I had gotten the same wobble on my 05 Heritage. I tightened the steering head and wobble gone. Glad it wasn't the spokes.

i dont' understand why the dealer wanted to charge you to fix something when the bike
(I assume) is under warranty

Steering head adjustment is a maintenance item. It would be normal to be charged for periodic service items.

Whole different story if the wobble was mentioned shortly after purchase/delivery. Then I'd expect a free adjustment.
