Yeah, I'm thinking of lowering it too but the 09 night train I got came pretty low with the mono shock and all. Its nice because the newer models's fenders hug the tires alot closer then most harley bikes in the past. I just have a vision in my head is all. The x pipes come black with chrome heat shields so it will complimeant my all black night train nicely. Same as the air cleaner, its low key with the black spiked cone but it has a chrome elbow and some diamond cuts through the spike. As for having a rider they make extensions for the passenger pegs. you can put on and fold up giving it the same look as before. It would be stupid to put a passenger on without these extensions. As for the proformance complaints.. Its coming with a race tuner and a high flow drag specialties air intake.. I doubt I will lose any. Furthermore, if you burn your leg on your pipes you need to relax.. its not a crotch rocket.. kick your legs out and injoy th ride!
not to insult you but just in case you didnt know the difference a mono shock is a single shock that is hidden from sight located under the seat. The duel shocks are the two shocks on the outside on each side of the back tire like most bikes.
Yeah, that hidden mono shock, i.e. Softail, is a great innovation. Isnt it?
Softails since birth always came with dual shocks, never came standard with "mono" shocks.
And for the record, YES, it IS a great innovation by Harley, maybe not the best engineered bikes on earth, but i'd die before I bought anything else...!
how is that bull? I'm a big guy.. it makes sense that it would lower down more then a duel shock would.. and the 09's fender's hug the tires closer then previous models.. I get people all the time who ask me if it has been lowered and if I bought a new fender but it all came standard.

Um, so why would Harley need to go to a single shock when you can lower a bike with dual shocks just as low?
The point being made here is that ALL softail models from inception have come with 2 hidden shocks in parrallel. To lower a softail(all the way to fender rub literally)all you need is some adjustable length mounting bolts, or have them built into the shocks themselves.
If your softail came with a single shock(which would make no sense at all as there would be alot of unevenly distrubuted forces throught the pivot bolt)which I highly doubt, it would most likely have to be some aftermarket setup(which Ive never hear about)thats new to the market. Unless Harley found yet another way to cut cost corners with the new bikes.................
