Default Headlight

I want to change my stock headlight and put on a custom one on my 07 street bob. Question : Is there a plug that disconnects from the stock wire or do I have to splice into it?

The harness plugs into the back of the bulb and into a connector under the tank. To reuse the harness, you'll have to remove the pins from the connector (the one that connects under the tank) and pull the harness through the old headlight shell after removing the bulb. I don't remember what type connector is used but the service manual will describe the pin removal. I don't think splicing in would be a problem, though I would use shrink tubing to insulate any connections and buy some nylon braided sheathing to cover it up and make it look better.

If you do splice, like I chose to do, you may need to extend all 3 wires. Don't make the mistake I did and use a thicker gauge wire; it'll dim the brightness.

I put the light from a 08 fat bob on my 05 fxsti with very little mods. To get to the connector under the tank first remove the seat and the rear bolt holding the tank to the frame. Then remove the cross bolt in the front of the tank. Carfully slide the tank up and back as far as you can. The fuel crossover hose will prevent the tank from sliding very far so you mat need someone to help hold it up to unclip the connector. You will have to clip 1 zip tie just in front of the connector. I found that the Fat Bob light is a lot brighter at night as the O.E. on the 05 was little more than a candle. I wil try to post some pics of the bike with the new light.
