Default Quick questions: Headlight swap.

My brother in law if coming over today to swap out headlights with me, before we take off for bike night. He has a blacked out Night Train and wants my black bucket headlight...and I have an FXDC that would go great with his chrome housing. So it only makes sense to get this done. From what I've read and searched in here, it seems like a lot of people are splicing wires, or trying to push the wires through the back of the bucket with some spray grease. My question is this: Is it really that much of a pain in the *** to disconnect the light from the bike at it's connection point? Is there more to it than taking off the bolt in the front of the tank and giving it a little lift? Or is there something else I'm missing if I want to change them out completely without having to fickle with the wires? Is the connection toward the front of the tank, or back further near the seat? Has anyone wrote up a DIY with pics on this?

Thanks in advance...and my apologies. I'm sure this has been brought up a million times here.

just cut the 3 wires in the back of the lamp, and re solder them, done.... or you can take apart the plug for the bulb and pull that though then just re assemble it on the new lamp. either way bud it is a very easy gig

I think the connector is under the tank. I didn't bother with that on mine, like Joe said just cut and solder 3 wires. Just remember to use heat shrink and you're fine.

Cool. Thanks a lot guys. After further inspection, I'm definitely going to ditch the plans of lifting the tank, etc just for the light. Just wanna make sure of one more thing. After I cut the 3 wires inside the housing, do they just slide out through the rubber grommet in the back and then get reinserted through the grommet in the other headlights housing?
