The mounting tabs broke on my stock headlight on an 01 fxsts. I went to the dealer who said they were discontinued. I got an aftermarket light to get by but it just dosen't have the weight or quality of the old one. The tabs are about 1 13/16" apart so its kind of hard to fit . Any ideas of where I could find the proper stock replacement?
And another thing is, your year may have been discontinued, but chances are the headlight mounting bracket from a newer springer will fit your fork. So even if the new model headlight won't fit your mount, check into getting a new mount. If that fits, you can still get a newer model headlight. There's always E-bay too...you never know.
Try Custom Chrome and Drag Spec. I've found quite a few Springer parts there - specifically headlight accessories. I'll bet you'll find what you need there.
Look for the brackets themselves not just a replacement bracket.
Another thing you can try is to ID the specific part numbers for the parts you need and search Ebay and Google. Even though stuff is discontinued, you'll frequently find it for sale on the web. You might also get lucky and find someone selling the full headlight assembly for your year and model for the right price.
I know I had one a while back, but I'm not sure where it is right now. When I get home, I'll see if I can find it. It will be the weekend before I can look around. If you find what you need in the mean time, let me know so I don't waste a bunch of time looking for it.
You guys are great. A lot of good ideas. I am following one on ebay from a 2000 FXR that looks like it might fit. Someone else is bidding on it so I might not get it. It seems odd that my dealer didn't come up with the idea of switching out the mount and a new bucket. reh13, if you find yours over the weekend, please let me know. The ebay bid comes up in 5 days.
