My dipstick had some play in it too. What you do is press a nut up into the center of the rubber which will expand the OD. Size of the nut will depend on how snug who want the dipstick to fit. This will give it a nice tight fit with no oil leaking out. As for the dipstick blowing out, too much oil, make sure your bike is straight when you are checking the oil level.

I had the harley temp gage on mine.
it was feeling loose so wnt to the deler for new o rings (we don't have those they are not available.
long story short mine caughed on day and blew it out - not known by me for awhile oil on pipes -pants - and engine.
solution put the stock one back in and every thing is fine now
no the oil was not overfilled learned that lesson on a 25hund. mile trip last summer ..
