Replacing OEM Footpeg Install Pins
Does anyone have any non OEM ideas for replacing the passenger peg pins? The stock tensioning spacers always seem to go slack and the footpegs drop on their own. The dealer suggested chrome plated bolts and acorn nuts but I'm trying to keep my bike as black as possible. Having shiny acorn nuts on the peg bar aint an option for me. I like the idea of being able to tighten that connection to keep the pegs from flopping around. I searched the local hardware store for black allen head bolts but the look isnt as clean as I would like.
Acorn nuts are not adjustable anyway. They will either bottom in their own thread or tighten against the footpeg mount depending on how long your screw/bolt is. If they tighten on the footpeg mount they will vibrate loose.
As mentioned, re-bending the curved pressure shim works.
Another is the use a black button (round head ) socket screw with a nyloc self locking nut.
This can be tightened to the correct tension, and will not come loose with vibration. Once set, spot paint the fastener heads to match.

Those harley spring clips are crap. What will work and I've used it with good results. First find a 3/8 washer that will not quite but almost fit between the peg and peg mount notch. You will need to grind a small flat on the circumferance to allow it to go deep enough so the hole lines up. Then you need to file or sand to the point you can just barely wiggle the peg and washer into place. If you get it right it will be really rigid and firm. That's what I used on my Kuryakyn wings, which are quite big and heavy. They never move even pounding through the gears with high rpms. They will remain tight indefinately.
