If you aren't queer for chrome, the Standard is a great choice. Look at all the accessories you might add to each bike then figure out the best value based on total cost.
To me the Standard is the consummate motorcycle, relatively lightweight, agile and great looking. Not many frills but lots of thrills. It also make the perfect "clean slate" for any personal modifications you may want to add. And believe everyone on this forum - "you'll will be dropping some bucks of mods".
Hey, thanks everybody for your replies. Seems like a really great bike. The credit card/mod thing may be an issue for me at this point. I think there's one in my future, though I'm not sure how soon. I'll keep ya posted.

I started with a Standard, and found it to be the perfect starting point. I was kinda bummed I couldnt afford a few dollars more and get a Deluxe or Heritage. But check the pics below, Ive slowly built and Old Skool Scoot with my own two hands. Ive got some things left to do yet.
