36 mpg is just right if your over rich at cruise speed. Retune for leaner cruise . I don't know if your Dyno operator just does power but sure needs to do cruise and low speed too. You could probaly get back to 50+ mpg. headers and intake isn't going to cause you that much,it is all in the tune. Don If one thing dont work try something else.
I have just checked my mileage for the first time after installing a PCIII from Fuel Moto with a pre installed map for my combo. (SE Heavy Breather, 2" Rush slip on's, 93 octane Mobile, 20/50 Mobil V-Twin, Otherwise all stock 96ci fxstb, 4400 miles)
39 mph with mostly 4th gear city and very little hwy. Now keep in mind, 200lb rider w/no windshield (probably would not make a diff at the lower speeds anyway).
I have gotten as much as 50 mpg on the road @ 60-65mph w/shield but it only had the Rush 2" slip on's at the time.
I am interested to see what happens on the road again ( gez I sound like Willie) with shield and the same speeds.
The city driving was with a very light right hand.
I really did not install the extras for more performance, only looks and sound and to run cooler. It does seem to run a little cooler with the extra fuel added by the PCIII and feels like it has more low end grunt. As for performance, I typically don't throttle much to tell if anymore but I am sure there is. I plan on checking it on a dyno soon.
Most who put on the extras and tune are on the throttle more because they like the added performance and noise but find that the MPG is way down. I wonder why. (go figure)
UPDATE...
I just did a 135 mile ride today, mostly highway (some short city) at 65mph with windshield and high winds in all directions, 88 deg. temp. 46 mpg (2.9 gals) Oil temp after the ride was 220 degs.
Going to try to put it on the dyno next week.
I dont get on the throttle. The dyno tune was for the engine life. It dropped the mpg from 50 to 43 but it runs quieter and no pop and smoother so i dont have to get on it. I can even touch the exhaust after a run so i know the engine is cooler. also it no longer pings. Worth the 300 for the dyno tune.
I get about 37 to 40 on my new Heritage. All I have done is installed V&H Straight Shots. I'm currently at 1,000 miles and it goes for the scheduled maintenance this week.
I've been told the mileage will improve over time, but ..............
My 07 Superglide was getting 46 to 48 from the beginning up until the time I sold it.
The tech at my dealer says he will look into it for me.
07 Heritage stage 1, rush 2", Sert dynoed, 38-40 when new, after the 10k service I average 42-45, about 33% city, 33% county and rest over state hiways 2 lanes. most riding is in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears.
