I e-mailed V&H and this is what they said about DB's
Here are the answers to your questions. If you have any more just let us know.
Big Radius 104-107db
Bigshot Staggerds w/ quiet baffles 99db w/o quiet baffles 102db.
Stock 82-84 db. Every 10db is double the sound.
Quietest exhaust is the Double Barrell Staggerds 95-96db
Thanks for all the excellent responses. RockerMike, did you feel the overall sound of your bike was a little quieter with the Thunder Monster QQ baffles? Don't get me wrong guys, I DON'T want a quiet bike, just not QUITE as loud as it is right now. I live in a narrow back lane with all brick/concrete/asphalt etc and not much soft greenery!
I keep my garage door shut for warm-up as the sound is more muffled.
Irishfastback, those figures are fascinating! I had no idea that volume worked like that with the decibel metering. I guess it's that "inversely-proportional" thing like the Richter scale (??)where a level of 8 is a ****load more than 7 !
I'm amazed that the stock bike even registers. I had to keep twisting the throttle to make sure it was running!! That was the worst 600 miles of my Harley life..... riding a QUIET bike!
The BR's seem a lot louder on even medium accelleration than the SE's on my WideGlide. Keep 'em coming guys..... I'll find the perfect answer soon I'm sure!
Glad this thread came up, I have been wanting to quiet down the BR on my Cross Bones. I bought them because I liked the looks on the bike, I never heard the stock exhaust, but definitely could tell I am too loud. (I dont want to mess with loud pipe tickets)
I have a couple (dumb) questions. Do the Thunder Monster QQ baffles replace the current baffles in the pipes? (Easy swap?) Does the ECM need reprogrammed due to the baffle change or is the current programming sufficient?
The QQ baffles mount further up into the pipe (6 inches in). They are short cones, and don't seem to change the volume, just modify the sound to be a bit more boomy vs a bit rattlely with the original baffles. No changes to the ECM on mine.
Only thing to quiet it down further would be to have another QQ baffle in line......or a custom baffle
I hve BR 2-1 and I trip up car alarms when I ride down chicago city streets...something with the frequency cause no other pipes on other bikes i've riden did this....

I have the same problem with mine.....so you are not alone there.
Love my pipes. I regularly set off alarms as I drive by. So far, I have managed to avoid any tickets. They are loud...probably the loudest you can get from what I have read, but man, they also look the best! My neighbours have been pretty cool but then again, I idle to and from my place and start it in my closed garage. I notice that they do quiet down a tad once the motor has warmed up.
Btw,jknowltonThat chick in your sig pic is hot man.
I have the Big Radius pipes on my Night Train and when I'm at our local bike night I almost feel embarassed to fire up my bike because it's so quiet compared to every other bike around.
I like the deep throaty sound of my pipes but I woouldn't call em loud.
I have a DB meter and I'll measure my pipes vs my buddies Rip Saws. I hope he doesn't break my meter!
