When you change transmission oil, what's on the magnetic plug? Should just be greyish fine material and tiny shards. Anything more could indicate a problem.

Are you sure it is the transmission? My belt was singing when it got hot because it was to tight. The way I could tell was by pulling the clutch lever in at speed and the pitch never changed. It changed at wheel speed, but not gear changes. It to was only on decel.

My '07 Deuce does this in first gear only. It is not a grinding sound or doesn't sound harmful. It just sounds like straight cut gears. Only does it when decelerating and with the clutch pulled in. It has done since it had .7 miles on it. Ken

Ok, than that should take the belt out of question. Yeah, if the noise goes away with the clutch in, it sounds like either a transmission noise, or, possibly the primary chain is misadjusted. The noise would change in the primary as the torque is taken off the top of the chain under acceleration and applyed to the adjuster side under decel.

I have exactly the same problem with my 08 Rocker c and the dealer mentioned it could be that the belt is on there too tight. The funny thing is that it didn't start making this noise until about 20 miles ago.

At first I thought it was the rear brakes dragging (I actually still think it's the rear brakes dragging). My bike has 947 miles on it and it's going for service tomorrow. I'm going to have them check the bearings, the transmission and the tension on the belt.

Stay tuned
