Default Belt Tension

Did the 1000 miles service on my 09 Heritage. I used the belt adjustment tool to check the tension with the bike on the lift. I measured a hair below 3/4". The service manual says that is within range with the bike off of the floor. Since it is on the upper end of the adjustment, should I tighten it a little bit, or leave it alone.

if your service was just done leave it alone---seeing it a 09 take it back and ask your dealer--other wise you may be blamed if problems arrise later.

I don't have an '09 manual & haven't worked on these at school but have a '97 and have worked on '06 FLSTC's & '07 FLSTN's. Are you sure the manual spec is 3/4" for rear belt deflection? My '97 is 3/8-1/2" on jiffy and the '06 is 1/4-5/16" on jiffy stand & 3/16-1/4" upright with wheel in the air. Is this a HD SM or aftermarket (i.e.: Clymer's, Haynes)? Or a post misprint?

The large pic is part of your signature. Once you upload a pic that will fit, I had to play with it a lot you put the following comman in the edit signature block: [sigpic][/sigpic]

I would tighten it up some, put it in the middle of the spec, that way if for some reason, it streaches a little, youll be ok, and vice versa, it shrinks (unlikely) you will be good too.
