Default First Service 09 SG?

Have a friend who purchased an 09 SG. Just had his first service. Appears that a couple of items got missed. Doesn't look like the neck bearings were greased or the belt was adjusted. His paperwork consisted of a bill and no check list.

At 300 miles his belt deflection was 5/8" now at 1200+ and after the 1000 mile checkup, his belt deflection is still 5/8". According to my 08 manual the belt should be between 1/4" and 5/16". I would assume the 09 would be somewhere in the same neighborhood.

My question is whether 5/8" is anything to worry about over the next 4-5000 miles?

Nope not a joke. I don't have anyway of knowing whether the spec for the 09's is the same as previous or not. If it is the same, I find it odd that the factory didn't adjust to the proper spec.

I guess going back to the dealer and pointing out what appears to be their deficiency has some merit. Then on the other hand what's the point? They just proved how seriously they take the scheduled maintenance.

Not knowing to much about touring bikes as of yet, I've owned a V-Rod since '03 and the last time I adjusted my belt (when installed new) was about 2 years ago and it's still adjusted properly after 4000 miles. I can't see how a belt could loosen up after only 1000- miles unless there are other issues. Just my 2 cents....

As with anything new there is a break in period. I wouldnt find it too hard to think that a new belt may stretch a little. As for it being loose compared to another model, I would think that the belt on a 09 should be within tolerance of any other. After all, Its still a belt just the same. A loose belt will normally make a chirping sound upon acceleration. If I were concerned about it I would take it back and address it with the service manager, along with expressing my concern about what other short cuts are being performed during these overpriced oil changes.
