Default Loose muffler Bluing

I started a trip today from KC to NW Kansas. It was a little over a 400 mile ride and I'm staying with my parents tonight.

When I got here tonight, I noticed that the end of one of my Rush Slip-ons closest to the clamp was starting to turn blue. I have had the pipes for about 4000 miles and haven't had a problem.

I waited for the bike to cool down and then noticed that the two bolts holding the muffler on had worked themselves out and are gone. The muffler was loose enough that I just pulled it off. I can't believe I didn't lose the whole thing.

I have a couple of questions since I'm in NW Kansas tonight and the closest dealer is 90 miles away. I assume the bluing was caused by the pipe being loose? Will most hardware stores have the correct size bolts that I'll need hook the muffler back on? I'll probably be picking up a tube of loctite also. Is there a way to remove the bluing from the pipe, or will I have to just buy a new pipe to fix it? And my last question, has anyone had something like this happen?

Thanks for your help, at least I'm not out here missing a muffler..

yep, it happened to me, except mine turned goldish in color. And it was a replacement! What you need to do is get the correct clamp. I've been told that some auto part stores carry them. Good luck.

The blueing is most likely because you have never ridden highway for long periods of time and really heated up the system.
Dont know what bolts you need but the hardware store should have a suitable substitute..
