05 Fatboy died on me going 55mph ( 9 pm at nite- rural road no lights ) , pulled to the side of road and got off. Hit starter switch and bike started and run for 2 seconds and quit, did this twice before nothing would happen. Waited 5 minutes while I made some calls and tried it again, fired right up. Rode to gas station and waited for buddy to get my trailer and pick me up.
Got bike home and checked battery terminals and they were both just a tad loose, took bike to dealer the next morning. Explained everything to mechanic and he could not find anything ( codes, loose wires, nothing ) any help?
Most likely a loose terminal. Just to be safe throw in a fresh battery and properly tighten the terminals. Ya need to check these connections periodically. You can burn a terminal off if it is arching.
it's fuel inj.you may have a heat sink problen that only happens when hot ie:crank sensor, ignition module or a corroded kill switch, either way you should run the bike until hot and see if it happens again then you can start to investigated wtf is going on
if it died and the lights stayed on maybe the kill switch. Then again maybe it was fate then you did not ride that night and avoided the accident that have happened. Check your local papers.
there was some oil tanks for softail that had sharp welds and it would short the wireing and the bike would die. Mine blew the main fuse and the bike died.
