My 07 Deluxe has just past 1600 kms and is now due for it's first service. It's always hard to tell how much riding we can squeeze in before winter hits us up here in BC before we winterize our bikes. I'm thinking I can push into early November with periodical rides.
My question is, do you think I should get the bike in now for it's service and ride it for as long as the weather permits, or just wait a while and take it for service just before I pull it off the road. Is it best to have fresh oil as it sits over winter? ... and should I replace that oil in early spring when I roll it out of the garage.
I could ask my HD dealer, but I know they just want the cash. I'd like to know just how far I can push that first service realistically.
For a number of reasons, don't leave old oil in over winter. You can extend any service interval providing the safety things aren't compromised, for example brakes, bearings etc. There should be enough safety margin in that mileage for your oil, but get it done before storage.
