You drive in a straight line too much..., you need to drive on curvy roads to distribute tire wear to the sides of the tires. Or just swerve around your lane while you ride.
I keep a watch on the pressure. If anything, I run a little low so it won't wear out the middle of the tire so fast. Doesn't seem to help.
Running the tires "a little low" can also cause cupping.
I got 10K out of my OE Dunlop 200MM on my Softail.
When I switched to Metzelers @ 210MM I ran it a little low..
I ran 42psi..stamped on the tire was 48psi....
The wear and cupping was bad....
I should of run at least 46psi...
I only got 5K out of that 210 rear Metz.
Do you do a lot of hard downshifting to slow the bike down. That will wear the rear tire out faster. When I down shift, to slow down, I ride the clutch, in the friction zone, just long enough to keep the back tire from locking. It is just for a second or so.
Tom
8535 miles as of today and its getting close to the wear indicators. I'll probably go another thousand before replacing. Don't know what to tell ya fastcash.
Bro, I got my Rocker at the end of January and have 5000 miles on my factory tire and it's not showing wear. I have owned sport bikes with 180 rear tires and got about 6000 miles out of them. There has to be something going on because I don't buy it's the road you live on. If you find something out make sure to let everyone else on here know.
I appreciate the advice. I do not do any escessive downshifting. When I do, its at low rpms. I hardly ever use the rear brake. I don't consider myself taking off hard on it either. There is no cupping or other wear to th outer edges. All the wear is in the center because most of the roads I ride are STRAIGHT. I wish some of you guys could see the roughness of the pavement on the roads. I think you would understand then. I plan on trying a Metzler tire next. $200 tires every 3000 miles is getting old. I could be putting that money to better use.
Ya, but the Metz's are high performance / soft composition tires. You get increased performance, and less tire life with those. You could try 'em (they handle great), but I think you'll get a shorter life span outta Metz tires. I know, I got a 200 Metz on my bike.
