Default Hand Grips removal/fitting

Does anybody know how to remove Harley davidson hand grips?
I have the flame style on my bike at moment but want to remove them.
Do you take switch housing apart ?
It looks as though the switch housing just clamps the grips on (is this correct).
I want to put some spiked grips on made by HAMMER ! has anyone used these and are they like4like fitting.
Thanks in advance

the clutch side = unscrew housing a little, and cut it off

throttle side = you have to loosen the throttle cable to remove it from hand grip and replace it on new one. Watch out for that little brass fitting on the end of the throttle line, if it hits the concret them f@#kers are hard to find.

install should take around 10 minutes

The stock left grip needs to be cut off, but if they've already been changed out with aftermarket grips then yes the switch housing just clamps the grips on.

Is there any glue involved?

Is this a DIY job?

or

Would I be better off paying the local Harley dealership $80 for one hour's work when they really only take 10-15 minutes to do the job?

It IS a DYI type of job. I think you, and everybody with a HD, should tackle these types of jobs themselves. You will learn a little and gain confidence, too.

Here's the worst...............you screw it up and have to buy a second set of grips. That would really be OK.

If it is a HD grip, it has a notch on the left to lock in place.
No glue needed!

Some need glue and some don't, you should be able to tell when you get it on. The throttle side shouldn,t need glue as the cables and the housing keeps it in place and it might not turn so well glued to the bar. Like said above, hold on to the brass, it hits concrete and bounces worse than a basketball and then your sitting there saying son of a bit[h where are you at.

My '07 Deluxe had no glue on either side. Later models are just slipped on/off with a little elbow grease and held in place by the switch housing.

Default grips

Stock grips come off if you put it in a vise and turn like hell. What do you got to loose if your taking off bars any way.
