Default Throttle cable help

I need to disconnect the throttle cables on an 08 Heritage to unwind them from the brake. I have a manual but I am unclear on the removal of the cables. It shows how to remove the whole throttle, grip and all. I just want to undo the cables and replace. My question is do they come apart where the black cable meets the alum. stiff cable at the grip where they bend? If so is there any danger of not getting them back correct and screwing with the throttle? Please help if you can, I am at work and need to tackle them soon.

Thanks
Tim

take another look at the manual.

1. loosen the throttle adjust nuts
2. unscrew switch housings and seperate.
3. remove the cables from the throttle grip
4. don't lose the brass thingies
5. don't lose the cradle that sets below the grip that the adjuster screw uses
6. pull the cable housing elbows from the lower switch housing.

The cables just pull out of the bottom of the switch housing after you have them unhooked from the throttle. Rock them back and forth slightly. There's a snap ring up in the switch houseing. And as was said, don't lose the brass ferrules because they pop out very easily.

If you can find a little easter basket or bucket hang it from the handlebar under the throttle and put a large bath towel under that side of the bike. Those little brass ferrules on the ends can be a pain in the butt cause they can be hard to keep track of as your trying to unwind the cable.
Putting the basket 'should' catch them if not the towel should keep them from bouncing off on a trip to never never land if you don't grab them quick enough once they come loose from the groove in the grip.
