The Zumo 550 is an excellent choice. I use it on the bike and in my vehicles. Routing is easy either directly on the unit or on the computer and transferring to the unit.
There is a forum called zumoforums that has a world of good information.

I've still got my old 2610 but my new Zumo 550 blows it away with speed , accuracy and user friendliness.

I wired an sae 2 wire plug direct to the battery and spliced one to the Zumo power cord. It makes for a simple and quick mount dismount.

Here is a link to mine mounted on my Heritage

If you are camping in Europe the Zumo 550 is a bad choice, few countries covered displaying campsites, however the cheapest TomTom's have most if not all countries covered

Ordered my zumo 550 last night. Can't wait to get it. New electronic toy! I''m all giddy and $hit.

I also noticed this morning that Garmin has partnered with MadMaps to provide electronic versions of their Ride/Get out of Town maps. Nice touch.

I use the Streetpilot 2730 which has been discontinued by Garmin. It is similar the 2820 but includes the antenna for the XM radio. I use the Garmin motorcycle power adapter and a headphone extention cord to put the plug at the front of my seat.

I ride with earplugs. Protects hearing and I am wired for sound. XM radio is great!

The great thing about GPS on a bike is that you will see the twisties before you get to them. The maps are actually pretty detail so you can tell how tight an upcoming turn is. And for Softails. The speed indicator on the GPS is like a HUD it is in your visual field so you do not have to glance down to your tank for speed.

And when you do get lost you can then turn the directions on.

"...you will see the twisties before you get to them..."

Hmmm, if you've got time to watch the road on your GPS whilst you're riding you've got an issue. And we complain at the cagers!!

Don't be to quick to buy the Digital version of Mad Maps. They locked them down to prevent people from just doing what they want with them, like add other points into them or change the start and end points. Buy the paper version of the maps then you can just add the destinations as you want to. A bunch of good talk about this problem and anything else zumo related over at zumoforums.com

Bah... Thanks for the heads up on that.

I did join Zumo Forums the other day, but I haven't spent much time there yet. Guess I better...

Well I have my GPS mounted a bit higher than grip level and sits in my field of view. And so you can pick up some of the info of the MAP as you ride. Think HUD like a fighter pilot rather than Cell Phone like Paris Hilton.
