What really happened was I tried that and the fish line and the dental floss would only break when I tried to "saw" through it.

Use a used high 'E' guitar string (no breakage) I recommend using a used string only because it means someone is playing and you will not waste a perfectly good new string

all you people who are using fishing line dont you ever fish for anything bigger than panfish? Get some 12 lb pike fireline and i bet you cant break that pulling it with two guys!

Fish line and wd40 worked for me. No heat and very little adhesive had to be cleaned off the forks.

I used a heat gun and fishing line, then goo gone, worked like a charm. The only suggestion I would give you is take your time and dont concentrate the heat in one sopt for too long if you want to save the reflectors. I ended up melting mine pretty good and then snapping them in half while pulling on them, it was no big deal for me as i really have no use for those ugly things anymore.

I didnt use a heat gun on mine, I used a guitar string to strip them off and then scrubbed the sticky areas with gasoline and a cotton cloth. Took a bit but came off pretty easy.
