Had 2 into 1 Hooker tuned pipe installed at Myrtle Beach bike week last year. Coupled with a new breather and dyno tune, I picked up 14 HP. Nice low growl. Much nicer sounding than the loud blat of the V&H Big Shots that I had on before.
Can't wait to get back down there this year and see what she has now. Heads completely redone and gear drive cams installed this winter.
If you are looking for good performance try the thunderheader. the finish isn't as good as some of the other brands but they are still the best performance exhaust.
I too dislike the megaphone look that many 2-1 pipes have. I went with the Python 2-1 distributed by Drag Specialties (but made by Vance and Hines). Excellent quality, sound, and good power. The scalloped ends give it a lot of style.
I second the python's. I like the way they look and sound, without that huge megaphone
I just ordered Rinehart 2:1 pipes. I'm not a true fan of the looks but I was told they are the best performers. I love the Thunder Header sound and I hope the Rinehart's sound as good. They are also suposed to give more low end power. Can't wait to get them so I can put them on.
Theres no question about a substantial power increase when using a QUALITY 2>1 exhaust SYSTEM. By system I mean the addition of a module or jetting to correct fuel delivery issues. NOTE: drag pipes are radical, but do not achieve their full power untill your wide open. Hence the name Drag-Pipe.D.P.'s are geared primarily toward horsepower which is great for bragging rights and the top-fuel guys.Torque is what you are actuallyfeeling when you twist the throttle. Some people are actually putting torque cones in drag-pipes at the head end to compensate for lost torque. These do not allow the heat to dissipate correctly resulting in the rear cylinder(which gets much less cooling airflow) getting cooked.
2>1 headers are great because they tend to increase Torque without sacrificing horse power, provided your using a well tuned exhaustsystem.
For truly advanced exhaust technology discussion, you may attempt to contact the "guru" of racing exhaust - Ronnie Hacker of Hacker Pipes, or check out their systems. They are not mass produced, and they are hand fitted so they may lag a little in delivery, but its worth it.
