I ride an 06 Street Glide, it's a great bike but I got to rent a Heritage for my ten day trip in South Africa and it got me thinking. Had a hard time going back to my Street Glide. Call it seperation anxiety but I just placed an order for an 09 Heritage Softail Classic
My 07 has been rock solid. I want to ADD a new SG to the garage. Ain't giving up the Heritage though--it serves up a "pure" motorcycle experience the SG will never touch.
I find that with the Heritages that I've ridden I scrape the floor boards quite early and very, very often. Much less so on a SG, and even less on a Classic, Ultra or RG...
I like the feel of the Heritage a LOT, but prefer the looks of the SG. I think I'd have to have a SG or Ultra for long distance, and a deluxe for local riding.
I love the counterbalanced rigid motor! It feels like a direct link between my wrist and the rear tire. Throttle response is great.
While I really enjoyed my SG, I ride fairly hard, but never scraped. I had a Honda before, and was always scraping. A friend who bought a '09 Ultra at the same time I got the SG said there was a huge difference from his '07 Ultra - not only ride, but how far he could lean.
I am going to rent a Heritage for a day just to check it out. Even this time of year there are many great days to ride, and always good roads in the Hill Country (even the one the SG turned into a hunting weapon on...).
