Default Wheel Question

I found a killer deal on a new set of 40 spoke 21x2.15 and 18x5.5 wheels and a set of new tires. Wheels have never had a tire on them. They are Chrome rims. If I have the rims and hubs powder coated is there anyway to keep the rear wheel tubeless since I will have to remove the liner.

Thanks in advance

Don't think so. There are only a few spoke wheel mfrs out there that make them tubeless. I think that they either weld or seal the spoke holes someway to prevent air leakage when the spokes flex during riding. Just powdercoating them would not in my opinion seal the holes sufficiently.

I don't know of a spoke rim that can run tubeless, but I'm sure there is one somewhere. You probably will pay heavily for it though. Problem is that spokes don't make an airtight seal b/c of the 40 holes around the rim. Powder coating wont change that. You will still need a rim strip to cover the spokes on the inside of the rim prior to using a tube. Why would you like to run tubeless?

dna and ride write both make tubeless spoked rims. They use some kind of silicone patch over the holes.I dont think you can just make any wheel tubeless, it must be sealed at the factory.

I have the 50 spoke Fat Daddy made by Ride Wright. The company says to run tubeless. I run Metzler 880's.

Thanks guys, I think that Im going to pass on the deal. By the time I pay to have them taken apart and put back together and powder coated, the cost will be to much.
