Hey guys, I am wondering over here from the touring section. I have some questions for you guys abut the denim paints, specifically black. I figured this would be a good place to ask since it seems most of the bikes offered in black denim are softails. I am considering having my 09 Road King sprayed in black denim. I would like to hear from you guys what the pros and cons are of this paint. I would like to hear about everything from maintenance and upkeep to durability. I have heard things like if you use certain detail spray it will start to shine and that things like your legs on the gas tank start to make it shine as well. I figured what better place to ask than here. I appreciate your input....
I have a KTM 990 Adventure that has the flat "denim" paint. It's as easy to clean as any other paint. It has gotten a bit shinier where my legs rub while standing up (it is a dual sport bike, so you stand on the pegs a lot when riding trails), but a lot less than I would have thought. I use a Meguiar's detail spray occasionally - doesn't seem to affect the low sheen.
So - I'd bet the "denim" will get shiny with too much mild abrasion from fabric or leather. There have also been other posts where guys have used products such as "Scratch-X" and removed the dullness unintentionally.
I particularly like the look on the Street Bob and the Crossbones.
I spray my bike with Bike Bright which I buy at HD, Its the same material they use after service to clean your bike.
Spray with Bike Bright, Hose off.....then Use the leaf blower on it to dry and blow off excess water!!!! No issues, No scratches or scuffs, non of that fine hairline scratches you see on regular black paint finishes.... Its wash and go!
If you use a wax material or polish, pledge ?? it will get shinny... but if you drip gasoline in the spot you polish, forget it... it will be spotty and will eat right down to the original denium finish.
did any one notice the the moco painted the 09 rocker frame flat black also to match the tins?
I think the denim paint with gloss frame looks like it needs paint.
oh wait, to answer your question my friend has a denim red SG and he waxed it it looks like sh_t now.
