As stated before in warmer weather the rider's leg and butt gets hot due to the way wind deflectors alter the route of the air. Remove the deflectors and wind buffeting around your face and helmet.
I am thinking that by cutting off some of the wind deflector air might flow over the engine as normal, but the remaining portion of the deflector would still eliminate the buffeting.
Have any of you tried this and if so what were the results?
Yeh, I thought about doing the same thing. I have a pair of the heritage softail chrome wind deflectors. Right now they are off my 02 Fatboy, but the airflow upward along each side of the bike and then up to my helmet is really annoying. Not sure what to do.
I just ordered a set of those very wind deflectors for my Heritage Classic. Now I read this and you guys say you get hot butt and a hot right leg with them on. I guess you can't win. How much is this a problem anyway. Is it that bad you had to take them of your bike ajay450? How hot does it have to get out before this happens. I read in a couple of forums somewhere that they really make quite a diiference to the wind getting up around your body though...is this true. Also let me know what you both decide to do...cut them off or not.
My wife has the deflectors on ther Heritage, and I haven't noticed a heat issue when i have ridden it. She has never complained about too much heat on her legs.
I have the deflectors on my EG Classic and I have not noticed a problem there either
They do a terrific job at blocking the wind. And I haven't ridden when it's hot to know if that's a problem. I only took them off because I wasn't sure if I like the way they looked on the Fatboy. Seemed just a little too much for the FB. Maybe OK on the HC since it's a bigger looking bike. But they really do make a difference at blocking the wind.
Thanks everyone...I hope I like mine when I get them. I'm going on a long tour this summer and want to get the Deflectors on before then. By the way did anyone put them on themselves and how hard was it to do? Nice to hear they do a good jod blocking the wind.

Takes about 15 minutes. You remove the two screws on either side of the forks that the windsheild mounts to. I removed them one at a time and replaced them.
Could take you longer than that if you stop for a beer.
Well I got the wind deflectors on the Heritage today. It wasn't to bad a job,it did take me a little time to get one of the lower bolts in thought. I had to do some moving the thing around to wiggle it into place. Looks good but I could not go try them it was raining[:@]. Now I hope they cut the wind some not that I though the wind was that bad with the windshield but if this helps even more great. Thanks for you help so far everyone.
