I think I might have found a rare bike, it's a 84 softail with a evo motor and a factory kick start. The guy told me that for the first half of the year some models had the kicker, then after that they all went to electric only. It's in good shape, no dents, rust, or any scratches worth mentioning for $8000. Is this something worth looking more into, or you think just let it go. I'm not really in need of another bike, but i've been thinking about getting a softail or dyna, just to have an option of what I feel like riding that day if nothing else.

Really not that rare.. Wouldnt invest in it on the idea it was.. Turned one down last year fer 7k and the economy wasen't in the pits..
Ya got the change and want the bike.. Then it's worth what it's worth to you..
Just my .02
Now the "rare" one would be the EVO pwr'd 85-86 FXWG or FXB model with a 4 sp style frame (shocks exposed) like a Shovelhead, only modified to hold the taller Evo motor. This was a 4 sp w/belt final drive and a kicker.
I always wanted to build one like one of the orig (pre 84) FL's.
Big frt end FL fenders and so on.
I'm not looking too hard right now, just keeping my eyes open if any deals come along. I thought maybe this might be worth looking into a bit. Thanks for the input.
There was much improvement between the shovel head 1984 kicker/chain and the Evo 1985. I bought one of the first new ones, a red Softail Super Custom, the only models (red or blue) that offered extensive chrome, a 21" laced & a wideglide w/5 3/4" bucket. Belt Drive final. I bought the thing new for $8,400 and sold it for more w/86K miles a few years later. It had a bat wing, Ultra lowers, tour pack and 80 CI hard bags. When riding in sunny FL sometimes it is not so sunny. Rain up to the axles and you keep on trucking. The fairings helped greatly along with a tall windshield. Many good memories. Bought a 1993 Heritage (got older) & wanted more comfort.
let me preface this by saying I'm new and don't know all that much about bikes and their value but it seems like a lot for a 25yr old bike. I'd probably be more interested if it were 5k but even then it better be in great shape?
