Potential FATBOY owner needs help !!

Hi all,

I'm going next week to view a very low milage used 2000 fatboy ...

What things you think I have to focus on or ask the owner about ??

I would when the engine build date was, so that I could contact the MoCo and see it it has the crappy rear bearing in it that came in all 1999 models and some 2000 models.

Also find out if cam chain tensioners have been replaced with either gear drive or new tensioners. And find out if it has magnetti marelli EFI or Delco as the delco is better.

Ask who did the servicing and if he has receipts to confirm it. Lots of great deals on used bikes right now. Take your time, it is a buyers market!

"Delphi" did not start until 2002.

If you can get the seller to give you the VIN for the bike you can try plugging it into the Harley web site and it should show you if there are any outstanding recalls on it.

If it looks good, runs good and it is priced right, the only thing I would be concerned with is the age of the tires. When you take it for a test ride, see how easy it starts up a few minutes after you turn it off. Ask the seller if he would pull the plugs so you get a general idea as to how it is running.
You could run into problems even if the bike was just a few years old.
