Default 95 Nostalgia or 01 Heritage Classic

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on my first Harley. If anyone has input that would sway me towards one or the other I'd appreciate it.

I've only seen photos, so I haven't ridden them, but plan to check them out in person.

The 95 Nostalgia looks beautiful with the black and gray and the whitewalls and wouldn't need much more to get it the way I want it.

The 01 Classic has the 88B injected motor, which I've read is pretty nice. It's white and would look super sweet all chromed out. Do those saddle bags & guards come off without leaving a bunch of exposed ugly hardware? I don't want the bag look.

The Classic is $3K more and needs a lot of chrome that the Nostalgia already has. But it's newer and has the upgraded motor. Both have about 30k miles.

Is the 01 Classic that much better that it's worth the extra price and cost for mods, and does it look clean after removing the bags?

I really appreciate if some body would share their view on these two bikes. Thanks.

I really can't tell you wish one to buy, but I can show you a couple pictures of my 2000 Heritage. I do like my bags for the long trips where I may need to have a jacket to get home at night, or the excuse that I can run to the store on the bike.

Congrats on the new purchase!

Is the 95 a moo-glide? because they are cool... LOTS of differences in counter-balanced 88 and non balanced 80 mainly in the ride all things being equal I'd pick the 88 my only question is was the FI the Delphi in 01?

Dust...your Classic looks good without the bags...answers that question. And I see you're changing it to white, just like the 01 I'm looking at.

aged...the '95 is not the moo. It's black and gray, kinda antique looking colors. The '01 is a white Heritage Softail Classic with studded bags and sissy bar. I don't tknow if it's a Delphi...haven't heard of that.

I say that you should wait until you find exactly what you want as the used market is flooded. I would opt for the newer bike myself, but look around, there might be nicer heritages with more add ons coming soon...

The Nostalgia was only made from '93 (the Moo Glide) through '96. I owned both a '93 AND a '96 and liked them both. They were basically a cross between a Fat Boy and Heritage. Heritage fenders and wheels/ Fatboy handlebars and exhaust. The whitewalls were also stock. They were designated FLSTN- the same as a Deluxe is nowadays. I have pics of my green '96 in my photo album in my profile. It was my first "Green Meanie" (I've had a couple).

I hate to say it (because I loved that bike), but after owning a couple of Twin Cam balanced Softails, you couldn't GIVE me another one with an EVO in it- vibrates like crazy. I really hate to make that statement because I have owned 6 EVO Softails in the past (and a few Shovels)-lol.

That's how much smoother the Twin Cams are. It also seemed like every two years there was a redesigned gasket kit for the bases of the cylinders (which leaked all the time).

I would say go for the Twin Cam.

I would pick the evo..

The 88TCs have smaller valves than an evo & the TC heads flow 10% less than an evo too. So the TC 88s run Hotter..

I may be slightly biased.. But since I test ride bikes I wrench on. I would still pick the more collectable Nostalgia evo..

TW...thanks. that really helps.

Anubisss...I don't think I can wait for the perfect one. I'm going nuts cause I can't stop thinking about having a sweet motorcycle, so I want to get it over with already. It's a midlife thing...gettin closer to the end . But your advice is good.

Buddy...you make it harder for me. The Nostalgia really does have a nice look with the black and gray two tone, whitewalls and chrome. (and it's cheaper)

Thanks for all the feedback.

Default Prices

I just checked the NADA book (currently the Sept-Dec edition) here at the dealership I work at.

The '95 FLSTN- $8820.00
The '01 FLSTCI- $12,090.00

We use the book (which comes out every 3 months), the online NADA prices might vary day to day.

I think we are at $13,999 on a two-tone '05 FLSTCI at the moment.

Hope this helps.

Here's a pic of me and my '96 Nostalgia.

TW...Much appreciated. The Classic is looking cheap at 11k asking, but so is the Nostalgia at 8k asking. With this market everything is coming down. I should probably grab the cheaper Nostalgia, especially since they're probably more rare. Yours looks pretty nice.
