Default Bombay Bars...

This question is mainly aimed at Citoriplus, but I'll take info from anyone that can help. I just got a killer deal on a set of Bombay bars. I need to know what I'll have to change for the installation to my 08 FXSTC(Brake lines, cables, etc.). Also I noticed that most every 2 5/8 tac says it doesn't work with the 07 and later FXSTC. Which tacs will work. Also, can I take the tac housing off of the bars until I buy one. Thanks in advance.

I've got an '09 Parts catalog sitting here on my desk......I can't find a 2 5/8 tachometer that doesn't fit your bike. They all say that they'll fit '84-later FX Softails, but they WON'T fit '07-later FLSTF (fatboy).

The Harley website says that they will fit all bikes except 07 and later FXSTC. I wonder which is right?. I wonder if is because the mini apes if thats the case then it doesn't matter because I'm using different bars anyway.

Ya coulda PM'ed me about the tach thing.

Just pulling your leg,
OK here's what I found out doing mine. First of all you'll need lines (clutch and T/I) that are about 6" shorter I went for 4" to play it safe and found they are a still a bit long. If I can find the invoice I got from Magnum I'll post up the part numbers for the ones I got. You can call them directly to get the shorter versions.

Don't worry about the tach, you can use any of the Harley 2 5/8" models you like, or even an aftermarket one. Its not the tach itself or its wiring that's the problem its the riser/handlebar/tach housing setup, and even that is "fixable" if your willing to do a little 'creative' parts mixing and matching.

But seeing as you have the same bars I have don't worry about it, its a straight forward install with the housing that's on your bars.

I will suggest you get hold of the service manual so you'll know how to dismantle the connectors properly, and reassemble them. Cause your going to want to run the wires through the bars. Fortunately its MUCH easier to do with these than nearly any other bars out there.

I wondered how hard it was going to be with the stock black plastic covering. But after I decided to use a mesh cover instead they pushed through so easily I wondered if I hadn't screwed something up.

And I did, I forgot to put the rubber grommets over the wires before reassembling the connectors. Now I have to redo them before the metal edges wear through the wires on me.

So learn from my mistake and DON'T FORGET THE THREE RUBBER GROMMETS!!!

Now would also be a good time to upgrade the riser bushings to polyurethane. The rubber ones will work, but the poly ones feel so much more solid and I can't detect any realistic difference in the vibration in the grips.

Got any more questions feel free to ask, I might even have some (not many) pics of the install if I look hard enough.
Good Luck, your going to like the way they feel.

can I get by using the stock brake line?... are the 6" shorter lines going to be to short? How does the bar look without the tach housing?...looks like there is no chrome behind it is that correct?

No, you can't use the stock brake line, It can't be 'reformed' to fit that drastic a change.
No I doubt that 6" is going to be too short. I didn't find the invoice for my lines, so I'll measure the ones I have on the bike tonight and let you know.
And no your not going to want to ride the bike far without the housing in place, there is chrome in there, its unavoidable considering the process. But its nothing to look at and the crossbrace that's under the housing would look really strange without the housing to cover it up.
Once you get hold of them and get them out of the box you'll understand what I'm talking about.
