Got new flush mount gas gauge for 08 softail. Manual states to lift old gauge up and remove wires. The wire is very short and the gauge does not come out of the hole on the tank completely. Has anyone changed this out? Does the wire just need to pulled out with a little force or do I have other issues?
need to scummidge around under the tank and pull the plug out ! then either cut wires or fiddle about and try and pull the pins out (cut em is easier) re-connect new plug ..bobs your uncle !!!!
I have a 06 night train. Will the new black flush mount gas caps work? If so who has done it. The service guy at Harley said no because the new bikes have something different about the tanks.
I don't know if this will help, but here is what I did. I have a Deuce. I wanted to install the flush mount gauge/cap set. I was told it wouldn't work due to the shape of the tanks (the trim rings would not match the contour of the tanks). They were right until I thought about using the newer sets for the Rocker. What I did was check the wiring diagrams to make sure the plug-in would be a match (which they were) and then I asked the parts guy for the loose trim ring that goes on the filler cap side, took it out to the parking lot. I then removed my OEM filler cap from the bike and laid the trim piece around the hole. What do you know! It was a near perfect match. Bought the set that day and installed it in about 30 minutes. Would have been quicker if I didn't spend 15 minutes trying to remove the pins from the plug to remove the gauge.
