First, disconnect the 4 pin plug under the fuel tank (follow the wires from where they come out of the tank underneath to the four pin plug. Then comes the tough part. You need a hooked sharp tool to try and get the pins out of the plug connected to the gauge side. Quite frankly, if you can't get them out, just cut the wires close to the plug and worry about it later if you want to reuse the old gauge ( I am assuming the new gauge came with a new plug - do not put the new plug onto the wires yet). Once the plug is off the end of the wires, take your old gauge out by pulling straight up on it, all the way out until the wires come all the way through the hole. Can't exactly remember what I did next. I think the directions for this part were pretty clear. I can't remember if there was a little bracket that went in next. Then guide the 3 wires of the new gauge down through the hole until they come out of the bottom of the tank. Match up the colored wires exactly how they are on the existing plug and slide the new wires into the new plug until they click in place. Then put the 2 plugs together, press down on the new gauge until it is in place. Should be very close to this . Between this and the muddy directions that you got with the gauge, you should be all set. I hope this helps.

Is it the one that' shaped like the original gas cap and fuel gauge?
Did the new gauge come with the wires already mounted in a connector or not?

Anyway the first theng you should do is to find the connector under the left side of the tank in front of the fuel line. Make a note or take a pic of the connector so you'll know what the color code is later.
The stock gas gauge pulls straight up. You can wiggle it up to half a turn in either direction to loosen it, just don't try to twist it off like a screw top or you risk damaging the connector.
The gauge will lift completely out after you either dismantle the connector under the tank or cut the wires. If you cut the wires you can twist the hell out of the gauge all you want.
If the gauge came with wires that are already mounted in the connector you'll have to fish them up from underneath and screw the ring connectors to the right places (the instructions tell you to put the yellow wire to the Y and black to the B, you get the idea.
If the wires are not in the connector you can push them down from the top. Now you can use your notes or pic to put the pins back into the original connector and plug it back in.
The new gauge simply pushes in to place, nothing fancy there.
Hope that helps.
