Bitch, Bitch, Bitch......WTF was Harley thinking, I consistantly get "nice bike, why is the seat like that" I didn't like the design the day I saw it and I don't like it now. I'm bummed that I have to lower my bike to put the Heartland kit on it.
I've seen this design on a lot of bikes, nastalgic design. Harley is going to make Heartland a lot of money.
I have been reading your posts and dealt with the same crap convexed seat and decided to just remove it and go with a sprung solo saddle and had a few bags made....following the older look with the tool bag under the seat. I dont plan on going with the heartland kit however, I had purchased ($102) another stock fender which I cutt but do not know about how much of a large gap will sit between the top of the tire and the fender....probably more than desired.
I was wanting to put a larger tire on the rear ...maybe a 260....does anyone know what the max width tire I could put on it without having any problems with the swingarm?
I do like the idea of the air ride system and will consider installing one.....
250 fits very tight with stock fender and lower belt guard. The 260 will fit tight with the Heartland kit.
Here is a pic of my 09 Rocker with chopped fender and 250/40/18 Dunlop Elite 3 on stock wheel. It fits very tight with only millimeters of clearance on the lower belt guard and the belt itself.
SPEEDSNICE---That is a sweet fender..and paint job! Really nice! Im hoping I didnt cutt the fender to far back ....I noticed your cut line is at about the 90degree mark with the rear axle. I think my cut line is around where your rear blinkers are. I too plan on using the stock blinkers, are you using a vertical or horizontal license plate mount? Do you know where to find a side horizontal license plate bracket with license plate light only?
I will go with a 250, does it ride well with the mm's of clearance?
I have a Kuryakyn vertical curved plate mount on my bike modified to fit on the rear passenger peg hole. Heartland USA sells the vertical plate mount with and without the tail light. The bike actually rides fine with the 250 rear tire.
I had the rear fender chopped just behind the stock light holes and redrilled the fender to locate the lights further down.
Pics that show the plate mount.

I was a bit concerned about the vertical mount due to license plate laws becoming more stringent however, I am leaning to a vertical mount now that I have not found any horizontal side plates w/o tail light. I will post pics once I get the fender painted...thanks for the great pics and info.
My bike is lowered 2 inches (Arlen Ness) and the ride is fine.
It only gets rough when a big pot-hole rolls
out in front of me. I think it also depends a lot on the
riders weight. I'm 170lbs.
