Default Engine Guard installation - Heritage

Just bought an 09 Heritage last week and the main thing I want on it right now is an engine guard (looking at the basic nostalgic chrome guard from Harley)...I'm sure you guys have installed these before and was wondering if it is simply a bolt-on process that can be done in my garage...Also, has anyone taken the leather tassles off of the backrest and saddlebags?

Yeah, pretty simple bolt-on for the crash bar. One in the upper middle and two on the bottoms. Just be careful not to let it hit the fender.

Can't help with the tassles.

Hey! 09 Heritage owner here and yes, rmoving the tassles was the first thing I did - not my style. I just untied them. After you untie them, just pull on them a bit - the leather is looped once behind the concho ...it will pull right out. I've been looking at the same engie guard as well and from what I have seen, it's an esy bolt-on process.

Engine Guard is real simple, it just bolts on, just be careful and don't bang the fender. I have put one on wife's Heritage and son's Fat Boy. The tassles should come off pretty easy. Post pictures, Congratulations, gonna enjoy that Heritage.

yep, the engine guard is as simple as it gets. I did have my oldest son help me hold it while I got the bolts started so I wouldnt bang it on something.

Might want to cover the fender, easy to bang it. And don't forget the blue threadlocker.

Yep just installed mine on my 08' tonight, bout ten minutes. The key I found was to install the top bolt first loosely and then line up the lowers. Washers, lock tight and your done. I found this one at a swap meet for 80 bucks, mint condition, true HD engine guard, WOW what a deal...don't ya think.

Congrats on the Heritage! I have the Nostalgic engine guard and it was a very simple install.

Thanks for the info fellas. I'm going to order the guard within the next couple weeks and if I can find a second when I'm not actually riding the bike, I'll send some pictures and let you know how it went...hellfish, thanks for the tassle info! Later.
