Default Lower front fork slider question?

I've wanted to upgrade the stock lower sliders on my 2005 FXSTI but other changes have taken a higher priority. It's time now but the plan was to go with Harleys' Billet Lower Front Fork Slider Kit (46280-03). Who knew they would throw a wrench into my plan by discontinuing the part? Fortunately I found a dealer who still had a few in stock at favorable pricing. Unfortunately, the parts guy I spoke with claims that I would need to replace my fender in order to install the new sliders, not an option since I've had the bike painted. My interpretation of the part description is that installing these sliders on a Deuce (not the Standard) would warrant a new fender, probably since the Deuce came equipped with chrome sliders. Then again, this parts guy seemed pretty sharp and it is what he does for a living. Has anybody installed this part on a Standard and was a new fender part of the modification? Thanks for any advice you might be able to give.

I havent installed them but dont always trust the parts people. Iwas told by 3 different dealers that my rear pads were the same on my standard as to any other softail out there and guess what i was right and they were wrong. There are companies that make direct replacement chrome ones out there and more than likely they will be cheaper than a set from HD. Just open a jp or something of that sort and i bet you can find some. Maybe even on ebay.
