hello all! i have an 04 fsxtbi. i got her brand new and when i was riding her home, i heard a loud clanking type sound coming from the front end whenever i would hit bumps. took her back to the dealership and they checked everything out and found nothing loose or anything wrong for that matter. its been about 11k miles and she still makes this noise. i tap around the front end and the only thing that even resembles the sound is on the front rotor/caliper area. i had her lowered with arlen ness kit about 8k miles ago, but didnt get rid of it. so im wondering does anyone else have this sound and should i be concerned??? it doesnt happen all the time just when i hit small bumps. thanks!
Try re-torqueing your neck bolt. The service manual calls for around 30 lbs. but I've read that a bulletin came out and it should be 70 lbs. I've had the same problem on both my 01 Standard and 04 Fatboy and tightening the nut fixed them both. Hope this helps.
Also check out the front tank mount bolt... If by chance you find that it is loose, put on some red loctite...
Check out the steering stem, make sure that is is almost flush with the lower triple tree... Those have been known to seperate a littl, and I have had to replace a few on new bike (Out of the crate)... They are an interference fit with a snap ring (Some, not all)....
thanks for all the info!!! ill be working on her tonight and riding tomorrow. will post to see which works for anyones future reference. thanks again. [sm=badbadbad.gif]
