Question for you bonz guys. I would like to lower my bonz, and I would like to put the shorter springs under the seat as well. I'm 6'3", and tip the scales at about 230. Am I going to regret doing these mods. Let me know your thoughts....
The J&P 2" springs are pretty firm I am 190 lbs and they work well, some of the others people have used have said they bottom out to easy, if you don't like them it's only $20.00, the inch lower makes a difference.
I personally would not lower my bike I scrape the floorboards all the time as it is, the bones does have the worst lean angle of all the Harleys.
I'm 6'2" and a few cheeseburgers shy of 200#. I can bounce on the stock springs all I want and they don't seem to deflect at all. I'm thinking about changing the spring height to make the bike more comfortable. In the rear setting it feels as if the seat is angled forward and I slide off when braking. I'm also giving some thought to just switching to the unpadded seat. I've got one of them on my rigid and its very comfortable.
Thanks for the info guys. Jisham, do you find that your are scraping more with the rear lowered 2"?
Daddyknuck, I'm thinkin of changing to a different sprung seat as well. Something that makes me feel like I'm sitting in the seat as opposed to sitting on it.....Make sense?
I found that the 2" springs from J&P are too soft and they bottom out. I weigh about 200lbs and those springs did not work for me. I made a couple of 2" struts out of round tubing and placed the 2" springs over them to create the illusion of a sprung solo seat. Take a look at the photo. I also changed the seat to a 52004-25. This seat will also lower your ride height by at least another 1"
I have an 07 Softail Custom, 6'3" and about 235 lbs. I like the ride but it is very firm. My girlfriend doesn't like it at all [but the bike sure does look good!!].
The 52000-04 seat is for me. With the stock seat in the back position I'm sitting up on top of the padded part. I'm not that tall, but I have long legs. I may switch to the short springs if the new seat isn't a 100% fix. If they bottom out making a steel tube strut is a good idea. I thought about lowering the bike, but probably won't because I plan to use the 'Bones for a lot of touring.
