Default production date?

any way to determine exact production date of a bike w/o relying on the dealers word.(i.e. 2007 softtail could have been produced in 2006) any way to determine exact date?serial # and all other info is available.thanks for any input.

the number that is just before the last letter in your vin number is the year of the bike for instance 1HD1BW5139Y111000 the 9 would be the year number (2009) then the Y (york,PA) would be which assembly plant, then the last numbers are sequential numbers which varies.

On my FLHX the manufacture date is printed above the serial number but not on my FLSTF. I wonder why?

I think you can input the VIN# on the Harley web site and it will tell you the production date as well as any outstanding recalls that may need to be done on the bike.
