shifting problem please help

Default shifting problem please help

hey everyone im new here i have an 07 heritage that was built from a bunch of parts i bought and a friend built it for me.when im in first gear and the rpm's are high i cannot shift into second.i have to do it twice.it will only go in if i take it easy with first.this is very frustrating.does anyone have any ideas.i want to learn as much as i can.i hate having to bring it to him if something is wrong.i can wrench a little bit.any help would be appreciated

Check clutch cable free play and clutch actuator clearance. If its a heel/toe shifter make sure the levers are set to allow enough clearance between lever and floorboard to allow a positive shift.
