Just a note. If you get the Progressive Drop-Ins, they take about a half hour to install. No need to remove forks or take them apart. Go on their website and check out the video.

Not sure of the other models, but you do on a Heritage. I am pretty sure the Fatboy and Deluxe are the same. I think they must be changing them on a Dyna or Sporty???
dustmaker - On a 2000 FLST you use Progressive Drop-In kit 10-2003. To install you raise the front wheel untill it is just off the ground, remove the top caps, remove old springs, insert new kit. Oil doesn't even need to be drained. See the video on their website.
On the Softtails there are two plugs on the top of the tube. The top one(cap) holds it into the top triple tree and the bottom one is the plug. The springs will not fit thru the hole that is in the top triple tree. You have to drop it all of the way out.
She is showing you on a Sporty, not the same triple trees.
Wow, I was told that on my Deuce it would be like the Dyna in the video. I better
re-check - Thanks
Rusty your Duece maybe like a Dyna???? I have only done this on my Heritage. My buddies Fatboy is the same as mine, and my BIL Deluxe is teh same as mine.
Dustmaker does the progressive drop-in kit tell u to add fork oil? Did u drain all old oil out and add new or just top off?
Always change the fluid when you have taken apart the front end. Its cheap and easy insurance.
Pull the plugs on the left and right side on the bottom forks, measure how much comes out and replace with that amount. It usually takes about 11 to 12 ounces on a Softail. I use 20w heavy fork oil.
I did mine a couple weeks back (07 Fatboy) and had to remove forks, also followed service manual guidelines on fluid amt per tube, 16Oz using heavy fluid, needless to say the test ride was the scariest spin i've taken on a bike.. front end was locked and had 0.0 travel... took it apart again and called progressive tech they said with springs removed and fork tubess compressed into slider the fuid should be NO more than 5.5" from top of tube. Put it back together and all ok with the world.
