whats the difference between the 401 and the 402 Dunlops, can you have a 402 on the front while running a 401 on the rear?
I want to put a 150 on the rear of a 07 deluxe and dunlop only makes the 150 in 401 series
and at present there are 402 on the bike.
any input on this would be helpfull
thanks
i think 401's are more sport....and 402's lean a little more toward sport touring.........i just picked up 402's....but bike had 402 on front and 401 on back
I'm pretty sure that my 03 Heritage came with the 402 on the front and the 401 on the rear. That is also what I am currently running. I did have a Dunlop K591 on the rear once as well.
Dunlop's website is pretty good for generic information. The 402 is their "touring" tire, where the 401 is a "cruiser" tire. The 402 has a higher weight rating. Dunlop puts the "sport" designation on the K591 with a higher speed rating which wore out faster (also had shallower tread depth).
They come from the factory with a 402f in front and a 401 in the rear. If you put a 401 rear and a 402 rear side by side you will find that the 401 is a shorter but wider tire than the 402. The 402 is larger in diameter by a couple of inches and may have a very slight effect on your gear ratio. I just went through this whole deal and I decided to go with the 402f and 401 rear. Just like it came from the factory.
