Will it not fit on the 03 FXST? I was about to buy one as well.

Its only made for the newer bikes with the 200mm rear tire.
Look at Chicago and Zanotti's, both give decent discounts.
Someone mentioned that Joker Machine makes one, and they do.
But even if it fit and looked better, I personally don't think so.
It costs nearly double what the HD Tri-Bar does (about $400).
The Tri-Bar also has provision for a rack.
So that's an option that you might want to keep open even if you don't want one today.
Go for the Tri-Bar, you will like it a lot, we all do.

Lights on

Brake on

Expensive, yes. Worth it, yes. Definitely go with Chicago h-d or Zanottis if you can't find one on e-bay or craigslist. Easy install as everyone else has said. Just take your time.

thanks everyone for the replies, i'm gonna go with the HD one, it seems like everyone is very happy with it. I just put the side-mount license plate mount on and I think this will be a great addition to the rear of the bike.

Thanks again!

If you do get it but don't mount the plate to it you might want to consider fabricating an aluminum plate to fit horizontally under it like a shelf.

The light is fairly expensive (Duh!!) and that nice big fat tire has the same nasty habit all tires seem to have for picking up and tossing rocks and other road crap up. But being fatter it can toss more and bigger things.

The light is really nice but it would be a shame, and expensive, if it got disabled or destroyed by a stupid rock tossed up by your own tire.

It should be fairly easy to take a piece of thin cardboard, hold it up under the installed light and trace the outline of it on it. Then bend the sides up to form ears that go up to the mounting holes under the fender. Once you have the outline and the holes marked. You can flatten it out and trace the outline on a piece of scrap 1/8" aluminum, cut it, drill it, bend it up, and paint it with some black or undercoating paint and your done.
You now have a cheap piece of armor plating that will keep that rock from wrecking a nice (if expensive) light.

If you look at the pics I posted above you can see where I did something like that. But because I'm still using the lights plate mounting. I used a piece of scrap aluminum plate as a heavy duty reinforcement for the paper thin license plate the state gives us.

I think mine may have saved me from having to replace the light at least once because the back of the plate I added has had several rocks, or other hard objects impact it hard enough to chip the paint and nick the plate.

if I would buy another softail it would be the first thing to put on.

I actually bought the FIRST unit that came into the dealership when Harley released them and I love it (thank goodness it only cost me about 50% of the retail since back then I was dating one of the motorclothes chicks), looks so much better than the stock light.
