I had a problem with Jeans. Not burning but it felt like hot oil splashing on my leg. I look, and nothing there.

Chaps solved the problem. Never feel the heat, and have stock exhaust for now. Also, I left my chaps a bit long, and they cover the heel on my boots, so no more boot burns.

I have an 03 Train. It doesn't burn my leg. It gets a bit warm on a hot summer day when I'm sitting but that's about it.

The heat you feel is a direct result of the pleasure of riding what you own.

I'm sure the heat would actually bother some people to the point that they'd rather have a LeadWing......

It is definitely a Fatboy thing, regarding the seating position in relation to the rear rocker box, but I think it is also related to rider height. My wife complained that her Fatboy did that, but I was never bothered by it riding her bike. I don't know if adjusting the floorboards might help, but it might be worth a try.

I think it's a multiple factor thing..
I noticed it once on a long day's ride with stock exhaust in summer heat.
Other than that, with my rineharts, I've not had any issue... I'll be thinking about this when I do the 5 hours in the saddle to to beach next month. Seat is a little solo, engine is stock except for a K&N kit, Rineharts and proper jetting. Oil is Mobil 1 V-Twin... We shall see, but I really don't expect to even notice it.. Bike runs really cool.. to me anyway.

Because, my problem is burning at my upper thigh (just below the seat) makes me think moving my foot pegs won't help. I think heat is rising from the engine or muffler or both. All I know is, it is extreme and potentially dangerous because I'm going to end up with 2nd - 3rd degree burns if this happens again... or worse yet, I'll drop my bike.

Thanks for the responces, the heat I was talking about is right below the seat where the top of motor and oil tank is. Saturday I went and had the Stage 1 kit and SE II slip ons put on and it has gotten much better. Still hot but not as bad the engine seems to be running better and cooler. I going to go with syn. fluids at my 1000 mile service and mabey that will cool it down even more.

Thanks all!!!

Never had a problem with excessive heat from the rear jug becoming uncomfortable, but I ride a "police seat" which puts me farhter up and away from the top of the engine. Also running 2 into 1 exhaust so only one pipe and it's down low.

Has anyone thought of putting the exhaust wrap on the first two foot of their exhaust pipes? I know that it would hide the chrome (shame right?), but the slight performance gain and the decreased ambient temperature around the engine might make the trade off worth it. Just wondering if anyone has actually done it though.... I plan on doing it to my Fat Boy when I get home - because a Texas summer is nothing to joke around about.
