Default Help with Heat ???

This is the first Harley I've owned and do all softails burn your upper right leg because its so close to the engine. And is their any thing you can do to help like different seat, some kind of shield ect... Or do you eventually get leather skin on that part of your leg and forget about it???

Thanks
David

Oh yes what is the best passenger floorboard for the Heritage Softtail Classic?

Thanks Again
David

I haven't had a problem with this. I can feel more heat in the summer standing at a red light. But never a problem. PA summer temps reach into the 90's. As for the floorboards I'm not an expert on the differences but do like the HD passenger floorboards for softails. Just installed them last week and put them to use already. They are of good quality and my passengers like them too. If you get the HD don't forget the chrome covers which are really needed to complete the look.

Yeah I know what you mean, I always stand astride my Fatboy while my pillion climbs aboard, noticed that I had to stand bow legged just to stay away from the pipes, not a problem just needed to take care. Dont even have this with my RoadKing, but I do have the Screaming Eagle slip ons both on right side so obviously higher. Now you know I am sure you will get used to it.

I have the same problem. I can never go an a ride (especially a long ride) without wearing my chaps to protect my inside leg. I have been caught in a few traffic jams in 100+ heat and I gotta tell ya..I thought I was a gonner a few times! Not only did I have problems with how my bike was running, but the worst of it was the heat problem burning my leg. I ended up with a big red burn spot on my leg. Krikey that smarts!

I've seen heat shields to install right on the bike and ones that you just swing over your seat and tuck under your leg. I'd like to have something done. I do a lot of traveling and can never count being able to keep mobile. When I'm moving, of course, it's never a problem but getting stuck in traffic jams and long lineups at toll gates and stuff really SUCKS!

I've never had any burning leg issues on my Night Train.

Cheers!

I have a Springer with SE2's and I have never had a problem with the burning of my leg. I also have heat shields on them, if that helps you out any. I've never used chaps, just blue jeans. I can stop at a light or elsewhere and not feel a thing. Maybe I am just lucky. Good luck on finding a solution to your problem.

No, he is talking about heat from the rear cylinder head heating up his inner thigh not from the pipes near his leg. The only time the cylinder lights me up is when I wear shorts or thin dress pants, that's why I will only ride it with jeans on, no problems then. Maybe if you lower your bike, you can get your leg further out, I'm 6'-0" and it's not a problem for me.

If you have the factory pipes, thats the problem. The upper pipe cooks your leg and the oil tank. Very poor design. Since I went to the Vance and Hines pipes I don't have any problem with heat. Oil temps are down also.
