In the OP's case though with his trade things change a bit as 07 sportsters have been bringing fair money and from what I gather in the OP's sig block his looks pretty sharp. Here is a link to completed 2007 sportster listings:http://motors.completed.shop.ebay.co...06Q2ec0Q2em282
5 Minutes of research tells me that the dealer is a bit high on his duece like pre-economic crsis high and they are trying to get yours post crisis cheap.
Its all in the mix though as you are gonna pay for what you like. I paid top dollar for an 05' Night Train a few months ago as it had what I wanted on it and I just had to have it. I could have bought a similiar bike for probably a grand or two less but this was the bike I wanted!! Cost me $10,750 and in today economic downturn that was every cent an 05' train could ever be worth. 05's are 8500-9500 bikes. Key is that I'm happy and love the bike and the 95" motor with freshly done valve guide seals and a set of new Avon venoms and not a single scratch were a major plus for me!
Purchased from a fellow HDF member to boot.

I rode 200 miles this past Saturday in Florida, and visited three HD dealerships. Of course I checked out the prices of resale Deuces. To me they did not look at all lower in price than other softails corrected for year and mileage and upgrdes.
One dealership had a very nice Deuce, 35K miles and screaming eagle engine for about $15K.
I just purchased a deuce....Wanted one for a while, but the dealer price was always above what i considered a motorcylce should cost. Found a fire sale on a show piece due to economic meltdown of the original owner on ebay. Many bought and paid for harleys are just sitting not used and owners will take whatever they can get. Went to my local dealership to schedule a state inspection and looked around and realized i stole the bike. If you got the cash stay away from the dealers. help a financially strapped riding buddy.
