OR...you could just unbolt the front and rear of the tank and slide it back to access the wire connectors under the tank. MUCH EASIER than removing the entire thing. I alomsot forgot, remove the seat first.

O.K I've removed both bolts from front and rear of tank without disconnecting any lines but it seems like something is keeping it from lifting. Am I missing something? How far should it be able to move?

I purged mine before taking it off for the paint shop a month ago. Don't waste your time. If you go by the book you pull the fuse start the bike and run the gas out of the line. It runs for about 2 seconds with the fuse out.
The cross over is going to make a mess unless you drain the tank first.
And remember the line from the quick disconnect to the engine cost $46 so don;t do like I did and forget to disconnect it, it will break where the plastic connects to the engine ($46 down the drain).
Remember your fuel gauge wire connector also.
My other advice is do not go with the braded crossover line when putting things back together. On the left side you will scratch your tank when trying to fit two 9/16 wrenchs in there to tighten it.
As for the start up, I dropped my new tank in turned the key and it fired right up.

If your not comfortable with the plugged lines being left that way after removing the tank you can plug the original back on until ready to reinstall tank.
won't the gas come out when you pull the original cross over fuel line to replace it with the one from autozone?

Gotta pull the line off and get the other on fast. It can be done but just make sure you have the right size hose or it's going to run out the back like it did on me.

Did you disconnect the vent hose on the front of the tank which goes up under the console. I assume you removed the console and wiring connectors underneath.

Also the crossover hose is pretty stiff and will have some resistance.

And the tank fits pretty tight over the rubber gasket on the front of the frame. Just gotta work it up.

O.K. I was able to move the tank far enough to get to the lighting harness. But I noticed another connector with a black and orange/white wire just dangling there (see pic). This is on the headlight harness. Anybody know what this connector is for?

It's a 12volt connection. Used for the Front Fender Lamp on some models. Nice that they use the same harness, you never know when you can use it.

dont think it is necessary on fuel injection. I have taken the tank off my 01 fatboy and 07 night train at least a dozen times. the only thing I do is remove the fuse for the fuel injection, sometimes
